The 2026 Mojo Energy Pouches Virginia Beach Open ended on Sunday, Oct. 18. The first-time champions were Elliott Schupp, Jaume Martinez Vich and Sofia Sewing. John Lucian Goins won men's singles for his third PPA Tour singles title, and he did not drop a game. The PPA Tour Open, a 1,000-point event, ran Oct. 12-18 at Pickleball Virginia Beach, according to the PPA Tour event page. Several of the tour's biggest names, including Anna Leigh Waters and Ben Johns, were not in the draw, The Dink reported.

Schupp and Martinez Vich break through

Elliott Schupp and Jaume Martinez Vich won men's doubles in their first tournament as partners. The No. 7 seeds beat No. 3 seeds Noe Khlif and Riley Newman 11-4, 4-11, 11-4 in the final, and it was the first career PPA Tour title for both players, according to The Dink. It was also Schupp's first PPA Tour final. Martinez Vich had reached 10 PPA Tour finals before without winning one, The Dink reported. The Kitchen called it his 11th final appearance.

On the way, the pair beat No. 2 seeds Andrei Daescu and Will Howells 11-6, 11-7 in the semifinals, The Dink reported.

Goins wins singles without dropping a game

John Lucian Goins, the No. 5 seed, won men's singles by beating Martinez Vich 11-5, 11-3 in the final. That kept Martinez Vich from a second title on the day. Goins went the whole event without dropping a game, winning six matches. It was his third career PPA Tour singles title, his first since 2025, and not a first-time championship, The Dink reported. His PPA Tour profile lists him as 18 years old, based in Bradenton, Florida, and turning pro in 2024.

Before the final, Goins beat George Rangelov 11-1, 11-3 in the quarterfinals and No. 2 seed Noe Khlif 13-11, 11-1 in the semifinals, Pickleball Surge reported.

Fahey takes singles and mixed

Kate Fahey was the only player to win two events. The top seed in women's singles beat No. 21 seed Helena Jansen Fink 11-1, 11-9 in the final, the PPA Tour posted on X. She reached that final on a walkover after No. 4 seed Chao Yi Wang withdrew, Pickleball Surge reported.

In mixed doubles, Fahey played with Eric Oncins for the first time. They beat Catherine Parenteau and Riley Newman 11-13, 11-4, 11-9, coming back from 2-8 down in the third game. It was the first time she won two events at one tournament, and Oncins' second career mixed doubles title, The Kitchen reported.

Sofia Sewing was the third first-time champion. She and Parenteau beat Alix Truong and Layne Sleeth 11-8, 11-6 for the women's doubles title, Sewing's first PPA Tour title, The Dink reported.

The upsets

Martinez Vich knocked out top seed Roscoe Bellamy 11-2, 11-7 in the men's singles quarterfinals. The PPA Tour posted the result and called it "a statement win." Bellamy had arrived as the singles champion from the Chicago Cup, The Dink noted.

In men's doubles, Max Freeman and Jonathan Truong beat No. 1 seeds Eric Oncins and CJ Klinger 2-11, 11-6, 11-6 in the quarterfinals on Friday, Oct. 16, Pickleball Surge reported. Khlif and Newman then stopped Freeman and Truong on their way to the final.

Rain on Saturday

Rain on Saturday, Oct. 17, pushed back the schedule. In its first update, the PPA Tour said amateur play was postponed two hours and pro play would start no earlier than 1 p.m. EDT. Later updates moved the start to 4 p.m. EDT and then 6 p.m. ET.

The singles and mixed semifinals finished late Saturday night into early Sunday. The men's and women's doubles semifinals moved to Sunday morning, at 8 a.m. ET for women's doubles and 9 a.m. ET for men's doubles, Pickleball Surge reported. The tour's Sunday schedule post listed semifinals on PickleballTV at 8 a.m. ET, with finals at 10 a.m. ET and Tennis Channel coverage from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. ET. Yahoo Sports contributor Todd Boss described a "rough Saturday of rain" followed by fine weather for the finals.
